This is the Challenger you have been looking for...With just about all of the Challengers available today having been molested into something they never were, with incorrect engines and fake R/T identities and the likes, its refreshing to find a matching numbers survivor that presents in its original as born form..
One of only 381 Genuine Western Sport Specials built, this rare one year only option is now one of the most prized of the breed, and the biggest engine available for the WSS was the big block 383 which this absolutely stunning FY1 code Top Banana/Lemon Twist beauty has residing under that scooped hood!
A full decode of the fender tag confirms a genuine Big Block A91 Western Sport Special and one which was loaded with rare and desirable options from new.
The back ground of this car is that it was apparently purchased brand new in San Francisco and was owned by its original owner for a very short time before going back to the dealer before transferring to a lady who drove and maintained the car for over 30 years before selling it to its one and only NZ owner of over 20 years!
A well admired car that needs little introduction locally it would be fair to say this car has been treated like a baby by its doting owner and has wanted for absolutely nothing over the last 20 years.
The body is in remarkably original condition for its age with what appears to be all original paint in the door shuts and has had a quality repaint in the correct high impact Yellow many years ago which still presents beautifully today. This Challenger is further complemented by an almost completely original interior which in its current condition certainly supports the cherished existence this Challenger has enjoyed.
One of the nicest driving Challengers we have ever had the pleasure of marketing, the matching numbers 383 engine has just recently had a full rebuild at great expense, with a lot of good expensive gear being fitted, and coupled up to a fully rebuilt 727 Automatic, while a lot of time and effort has gone into making this challenger drive handle and generally perform far better than it would have new.
The brightwork and tail lamp lenses are all original and in very good order, and there does not appear to be any reproduction parts fitted around the exterior. The options ticked back in the day included the A63 SE moulding group, L31 Hood fender mount turn signals, M25 Moulding group, and the list simply goes on and on!
Any components that have been upgraded have been kept tucked away as the treasures they are, and include the original air cleaner, rocker covers, manifolds and carb, along with the original rally wheels caps and bands, if you wanted to go back to the stock original engine bay look.
A remarkable and rare survivor and a simply gorgeous example of one of the most iconic cars of its era, the 70 Challengers really had the look, and this one is as good as it looks, and will stand the scrutiny of a Challenger enthusiast who appreciates a rare and genuine car, as good on the underside as it is on the top, this truly is a good one.
