This delightfully honest old survivor is one of the few that has clearly enjoyed a cherished existence over the last five decades, still displaying very well today, and it would have to be one of the very few HQs thats never had a tow bar fitted!

Sold and delivered brand new by Blackwell Motors of Christchurch The Big GM dealer in June of 1972, this gorgeous old unmolested HQ has always been a Canterbury resident, spending the bulk of its years tucked away undercover in the upmarket suburb of Avonhead.

Recently released from long term mature ownership, the most recent custodian of this lovely old HQ had known this car for decades and had always admired it before purchasing her from the then owner of over 30 years! bringing it into his family as a faithful pet for the next fourteen years.

A particularly honest car that displays well, the overall bodywork is very clean with no evidence of major previous work, and this HQ was also undersealed from new which has done its job in protecting the underside. The paintwork, some of which appears to be original is finished in a lovely sweet cream colour called Covert Beige, and is still very presentable with only the odd expected touch up and general minor wear consistent with a well-cared for 50 year old car.

The interior really tells the story of this dear old car, and its still even smells like 1972 in there!
The carpets and seat trim are all in very good order and the speedo is showing 120000 miles which appears to be further confirmed by the overall very tidy condition and presentation of the car in general.

The trusty bullet proof big Red 202 6 cylinder is the matching numbers original unit, and it runs superbly through to one of the nicest column shift manual transmission we have ever driven. The over all drive of this HQ reminds you why these cars were so popular when new, and even today it is simply a lovely comfortable smooth ride, and this old girl has proven herself to be a great travelling classic that is reliable and dependable.

Nice original chrome and fittings round out the package, along with very clean boot and engine bay areas, so it would be fair to say you would go a long way to find a more honest example in un restored condition.

Maintained well and always treated right, you can just tell this is a good old car.
