Classic Kiwiana at its best! the old HD Holden Special!
Everyone over 40 years of age has a story about ones of these old girls, either your dad or grand dad had one, or you wrecked a few yourself over the years.....but thankfully this one has survived to tell her story, and its survived very well.
Sold brand new by Blackwell Motors the big Holden dealers in CH CH on 2/08/65 to a residential Christchurch address, and according to the original ownership papers, which are remarkably still with the car! has lived in Canterbury under private ownership its entire life!
A clean honest old survivor, still sporting all of its original interior, including the rubber floor mats, it would have made quite the statement back in the day in the gorgeous and very exotic for the period two tone sparkling blue, completed by the light blue exterior, with an off white top.
The solid straight and very clean old body has received what appears to be a decent quality repaint in the original shade of blue, and really looks the part today, while remarkably the complete dashboard area and underside of the bonnet still sport the original paint, showing quite clearly that this was a very good example before receiving the recent cosmetic refurbishment.
Presentable original chrome and trim complement the exterior, and everything appears to be in its place and complete, while a cool period set of old school Keystone mags wrapped in wider rubber complete the package, and give her a more racy 60s look!
The nicely detailed freshened engine seems very happy in its work, and is currently fitted with a genuine old school Cain Speed Equipment manifold complete with triple carbs, X2 style Twin branch exhaust manifolds, and a chrome rocker cover, so all it needs now is the chrome plate twin overhead grease nipples, and it will have it all!
The nicely detailed old 179 Six runs into a smooth column shifted Power Glide transmission, which goes a long way towards making this example very user friendly, and generally a pretty cool old cruiser to drive.
It would cost a lot of money and time to turn an average one of these into a car anywhere near as close to the condition of this one, and this example is already done, turnkey and ready to go cruising.
A car that used to be on every street corner back in the day, but quite a rarity on the road today, and this ones in nice order, so if you have been looking for a good old chrome bumper Kiwi cruiser that won't break the bank, you may have just found it!
