This would quite simply have to be One of the coolest cars we have ever had the pleasure of putting to market!
Step back into the golden age of raw performance with the legendary 1964 Ford Thunderbolt a machine built with one mission, to dominate the drag strip.
Created by Ford during the peak of the horsepower wars, the Thunderbolt wasnt just another muscle car, it was a purpose-built weapon disguised as a street-legal vehicle.
Starting with the compact Fairlane platform, Ford engineers stripped the car down to its essentials and installed a massive 427 cubic-inch FE V8. The result was an incredibly powerful yet lightweight car capable of delivering blistering acceleration. With 060 mph times under four seconds and quarter-mile runs in the mid-11-second range, the Thunderbolt set benchmarks that were far ahead of its time and are still impressive even by modern standards.
To maximize performance, the car featured extensive weight reduction, including fiberglass body panels and minimal interior components. Every detail was engineered with speed in mind, creating an exceptional power-to-weight ratio that gave the Thunderbolt a serious advantage on the track.
Its dominance didnt go unnoticed. The Thunderbolts performance led to changes in racing classifications, as governing bodies like NHRA adjusted rules in response to its competitive edge. This only added to its legend as one of the most influential drag cars ever produced.
With just 100 units built, the Thunderbolt remains one of the rarest and most sought-after American performance cars, it represents the purest form of muscle where engineering, innovation, and ambition came together to create something truly unforgettable.
This example is a fully ground up rebuilt tribute built to a very high standard of finish which features a lot of correct specification components. The Medium Riser Dry Sump 427 Side Oiler is stroked to 504 cubes, and is a complete work of art with its Tunnel Web inlet, twin 750 carbs, forced air intake and custom built mandrel bent headers. Make no mistake, coupled to the 4 speed Top Loader, this thing takes no prisoners!
This magnificent machine is being offered well below its replacement or actual build cost, and is fully LVVTA certified, and believe it or not has very good road manners and is remarkably drivable.
A comprehensive file of reference material and receipts accompany the sale, and as this vehicle was built here in good old NZ by a well-respected engineer, its all local knowledge, no guess work, so if you want to really stand out at the next car show, and make an impression this will certainly do it!
Enquire today on this magnificent machine.
