The Iconic XP Falcon Hardtop! The car that ultimately saved Ford Australia in the Sixties.
Ford Australia were not doing well with sales of the all New Falcon model in the early Sixties, the original American design simply wasnt tough enough for harsh Aussie conditions, but the XP model changed all of that and to prove the point even further they built the super cool looking pillarless two door Hardtop!
These neat looking Coupes always looked fantastic and although they were once reasonably plentiful here in NZ, very few ever come to the market these days, as they are now a pretty rare bird.
This neat looking Coupe was originally imported into NZ back in the seventies and first registered in Auckland on the 12th of January 1972.
It has been a North Island car most of its life according to its original ownership papers which have also remarkably survived the last 60 years!
The last North Island owner had this Coupe from 1990 until 2015 when it then made its way down to Christchurch where it has been for the last 10 years with its doting owner who has done quite a bit of cosmetic work to this clean little Coupe recently, including a full retrim in soft red genuine leather.
The body appears solid and clean and certainly presents well with a very decent shine from its bright red paintwork which complements the lines of the classic Hardtop shape nicely, along with a neatly executed radius rear wheel arch treatment that looks like a factory design.
The running gear powering this neat Coupe is Mustang inspired with a nice smooth Windsor 4 barrel 302 V8 sitting in the engine bay which is coupled up to a 4 speed Top Loader, and on to a Mustang 8 inch with power disc brakes fitted up front to make this example a nice performer with decent road manners.
A near new set of 17 inch Ridler chrome alloys and low profile rubber have recently been fitted, and all of the chrome trim and bright work is in good order giving this Coupe a really attractive style and appearance.
A nice driving example that rides and performs well, and appears very user friendly.
A decent historical receipts file is also included in the sale, and the current personal plates are available by negotiation.
