A true Survivor, and a historically significant undisputed example of our rich NZ Motor Racing heritage from a fantastic period in time.
With a roll call of drivers in the early days including Gentleman Jim Richards, Neville Crichton and George Bunce to name a few, you know you are dealing with a very special piece of local Motor Sport history with this car...
With a physical history file and documentation to rival all history files this magnificent Tuxedo Black genuine Norwood built Z28 competed in the GTX Series of the mid 1970s and won the Pukekohe Winter Series round at the hands of Neville Chricton and Jim Richards, to name just one of this iconic cars many successful exploits.
The racing career of this Camaro started pretty much right from the time it arrived on our shores in the early Seventies, and has continued in one way or another over the next few decades, including the car holding National Record Titles in the Drag Racing Scene as well as enjoying success in numerous Street Races and Classic Hill Climbs events into its later years.
Despite having lived a life of competitive motor sports surprisingly this car has survived in remarkable and largely un butchered order having had a couple of decent refurbishments over the last few decades, and as such still presents very well over all today, currently presented in a its traditional GTX livery faithfully recreating the spot on period look it crossed the line with, along with the chequered flag in 1975.
The body appears very solid and appears to have never had a major shunt or adverse repairs or modifications and is still finished in its original Tuxedo black with a really neat correct black interior.
The interior is very original right down to roll cage holes in the rear trim panels from the GTX period, and includes the big Hurst 4 Speed competition Shifter, and it even has the legend himself Mr Jim Richards signature on the original glove box lid!
Mechanically this example has just undergone a comprehensive full rebuild of the engine from top to bottom with impressive dyno sheets and receipts file available to support it, as well as a rebuilt gearbox and new quick ratio power steering box, and has basically had a reasonably thorough mechanical refurbishment of the driveline and suspension components, to give her decent overall road manners.
This car was a formidable weapon back in the day and was a real force to be reckoned with in Drag Racing after the GTX days too, earning itself quite the reputation, it has always been a fast and well respected racer, and it its later years of retirement simply a nice angry street car.
A very well known and respected proper Old School Muscle Car from the seventies that has lived to tell the story, and one of the few remaining examples from the GTX era that is still road registered, and still actually on the road today.
Previously a personal car of ours for many years, this car has always just had a really great feel, we have personally competed in the car, and always had a lot of fun doing so, it's an impressive example of true Seventies US Muscle and as such has always been cherished by its custodians, with the current owner having a direct connection to the GTX Camaros back in the day, so If history is your thing, then look no further, it simply doesn't get much better than this car...
