This impressive machine was one of the staunchest cars you would have ever encountered back in the day, a true Monster of a car that placed instant fear in the hearts of pretty much anything at the stop lights on a Friday night!
This Big Brute was originally ordered and delivered new from Reedman Chevrolet On Route 1 Langhorn PA, according to the original Protect-a-Plate which has remarkably survived over 50 years! and is believed to have been ordered with the high performance LS-5 454 and 4 speed Manual transmission and 12 bolt Possi Traction diff, which would have made it a pretty special car back in the day, and one that was more than capable of standing its ground on the gritty streets of 1970s USA.
This example has an extensive photographic history file from its purchase as a tidy completely stock appearing car, all documented throughout its complete strip down and ground up rebuild from a bare chassis and totally bare body shell on a rotisserie.
The restoration was clearly time consuming and very extensive, while it was performed quite some time ago, so this example now has a nice driven patina about it today, looking very authentic while carrying a few wee marks and scratches from being used and enjoyed. Complementing the stunning classic Georgian Silver with Black runways over the functional cowl induction hood, is the deep black Deluxe interior which is very nice over all, and having been optioned with the sports bucket seating and full centre console housing the big bent Hurst shifter, this is a car that immediately feels like a proper Muscle Car before you even turn the key..
The body is clean and straight with decent paintwork and brightwork presenting very well over all, and the photographic evidence clearly confirms whats actually under it all.
The power and immense low down pull and torque coming out of this big car is quite remarkable, and very impressive with a genuine feel of a serious performer from the era, yet it is still quite a civilised all round driver with decent road manners thanks to power steering and power brakes, standard height suspension and sports road wheels. As the saying goes, there is no substitute for cubic inches well thats certainly no issue with this one
An extensive amount of information and records are retained for this Chevelle, however they are a notoriously difficult car to specifically identify without a factory build sheet. This example has the correct engine date code casting numbers, a partially readable vin, and all the right equipment appears to be present, the information accompanying the vehicle from the USA states this is a genuine SS 454, but as we cannot be 100% confirm the fact without further history, (which is the same scenario with any Chevelle of this era if you actually dig in..) we have priced this example at a very attractive price point for one of these carsdo the math out of the USA and you will quickly understand the real value represented here
