What started as a vision to own a really nice understated clean and simple looking XY with a more modern performance attitude backed up by handling and braking sort of got out of hand.
Purchased as a very honest survivor this XY was complete stripped down and rebuilt in the restored/modified style you see in the images today over a 20 year period with an investment in time and resources that clearly had absolutely no limitsthe cost obviously wasnt even a factor in this build, and it would be fair to say the asking price wouldnt even come anywhere near close to what has been spent here by a long way.
The body and paintwork on this XY is simply beautiful and far superior to what it would have been from new, and although it has been driven since completion and had the bugs worked out, it still presents like a show car. The images show some of the detail of the body and impressive interior, but where this car gets very interesting is under the skin
Starting up front in the very impressive engine compartment we have a heavily detailed and dripping with chrome stroker Dart block Windsor which is out to 427 Cubes and is estimated by the owner to be pumping out around 600 hp and 550 NM of Torque with a recent dyno tune completed.
The engine runs into a modified and kitted TH400 Chevrolet transmission, professionally modified to adapt to the small block Ford and fitted with a high stall.
The front suspension is a work of art with adjustable QA1 coil over front legs and a full RRS power steer rack and pinion steering system.
The rear end is a masterpiece of engineering too with a high performance heavy duty gusseted 9 inch suspended in a full custom 4 bar set up with QA1 adjustable coil overs, again all tied in beautifully to get the impressive power to the ground, while bringing proceedings to a halt in a real hurry is a full 4 wheel disc brake conversion set up supplied by Willwood.
The performance is quite impressive as you could imagine, and some time has been spent at the local Levels race track in Timaru where this beast resides, with impressive results achieved against cars that should have been well beyond the reach of any XY Falcon!
The attention to detail and extensive file of records and eyewatering receipts file take some serious time to read through, everything has been thoroughly researched and documented with regards to mechanical aspects of the build, and a recent full LVVTA certification has been achieved at painstaking Lenths
This XY really has to be seen to be fully appreciated, the details are very impressive, and its fair to say that photos simply dont really capture what this car is all about.
This is a serious car for a serious buyer, this stunning Ford handles performs and presents like no other old Falcon we have ever been involved with, it is an impressive package that would suit show or motor sport type events with plenty of potential, as the ride is firm and purposeful, but this XY has also proved its worth as a high performing open road tourer for its owner having completed a few decent road trips in the last few years.
Reluctantly after 20 years of toil sweat and tears from its builder, the decision has been made to release this XY into the wild and pursue other ventures, so if you have been considering building something like this then dont, because the money has clearly already been spent here.
